In an effort to keep you up to date on God's latest work through the hands of Houston
Lutheran Campus Ministry, we're gonna be sending you monthly newsletters via Constant
Contact.  Yes, we know you are inundated with email, but we will make you this promise:

little wafer discs you're used to putting in your mouth at the Communion rail.

Two Peer Ministers Called to UH
To share ministry with students and to elevate HLCM's presence on campus, Pedro 
Pinto (Junior ???? major) and Jessica Kroll (Senior History Major) have answered
 the call to serve as peer ministers on the University of Houston campus.  They 
will assist Pr. Fuerst with organizing ministry events, with publicity, and by being
hospitable and caring toward all students, faculty, and staff.  Please pray for 
them as they grow in their understanding of what it means to serve all students,
 faculty, and staff according to the example of Jesus.

September 25th Golf Tournament
Whether you golf or not, here's an opportunity to support your Lutheran campus ministry
in Houston.  Click on brochure to find out how.  Tee time is 8:00 A.M. on Friday,
September 25th at the Sienna Plantation Golf Course.  We could still use some hole
sponsors and prizes.  If you'd like to participate in this way, please call Tim

Wanna do lunch?
We're still looking for congregations who would like to provide a radical gesture
of hospitality:  Lunch to 150-200 UH students, faculty and staff at the A.D. Bruce
Religion Center.  Every Monday, UH campus ministries provide free hot lunch to mainly
students.  We invite congregations to serve on the Mondays assigned to HLCM.  When
a date goes unassigned, Pr. Fuerst puts on his apron and cooks.  While he loves 
to cook, he loves sharing ministry even more.  Here are the dates not yet assigned
to a supporting congregation:

March 8th
March 22nd
April 19th

Labor Day has come and gone, and college students are now immersed in the Fall Semester.
 For congregations with colleges close by, you might try inviting college students
to receive a blessing during one of your worship services.  Ideally, this invitation
would happen right at the beginning of the school year., but it's never too late.
 The following is a sample  rite based on the "Affirmation of Christian Vocation"
found on P. 84 of  the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal:
Invitation to the Font
P: Sisters and brothers, your work, study and rest are in God.  Will you endeavor
to pattern your life on the Lord Jesus Christ, in gratitude to God and in service
to others, at morning and evening, in work, study and play, all the days of your
 life?
Response: I will, and I ask God to help me.
P: Almighty God, by the power of the Spirit you have knit these your servants into
the one body of your Son, Jesus Christ.  Look with favor upon them in their commitment
to serve in Christ's name.  Grant them courage, patience, vision, and wisdom during
this academic year; and strengthen us all in our Christian vocation of witness to
the world and of service to others; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
C:  AMEN.
P:  Bless you as you begin this 2009-10 school year.
