Eyes & Theme.jpgLYO JR HIGH GATHERING - NOVEMBER 22-23, 2008:

Kinsmen Lutheran Church will be our host for the redesigned LYO Jr. High
Gathering, featuring guest SPEAKER Sunitha Mortha and MUSIC by Glenn Green.
Saturday afternoon will be dedicated to SERVICE PROJECTS that respond to the
needs of people affected by the hurricanes.  Add in SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDY,
WORSHIP and a DANCE and you've got all the ingredients for a great
gathering.

JONATHAN RUNDMAN - 2 CONCERTS IN NOVEMBER - ADMISSION IS FREE:

Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, TX

Monday, November 10 at 7:30 pm at Living Word Lutheran Church in Katy, TX

YOUTH MINISTRY NETWORK MEETING (November 6):

The daytime Youth Ministry Network Meeting will meeting on Thursday,
November 6 at Advent Lutheran Church (5820 Pinemont Dr., Houston, TX
77092).  We begin at 10 am so we can end around 1:30 pm.  Please make sure
to bring your Bible for devotions and prayer time with Pastor Brad Fuerst of
Houston Campus Ministry, your own lunch or money to order lunch, your
calendar and any info or resources you want to share.  Our guest will be
Bishop Mike Rinehart.  He will give us an update on recent happenings in our
synod, but he's also up for any youth ministry topic you want to throw at
him! 

Our convener this year is Pastor Brad Otto from Covenant Lutheran Church.

LUTHERANS ON THE LOOSE - JOIN IN ONE OF THESE HURRICANE RECOVERY EFFORTS:

You have asked for more synod-wide opportunities to care for others so
please consider:

#1 Baton Rouge, LA:  Volunteers are needed to do yard work, fix fences and
take down trees. Contact Dagfinn Magnus at 504/432-7826 if you would like to
schedule a time to help. Release form needed. 

#2 Bridge City, TX - St, Mark's Lutheran Church:  The storm surge from Ike
completely flooded Bridge City. Volunteers are needed to help muck out homes
and clean the church. Congregational groups are welcome any time. Contact
Paul Zoch at 409/988-3003 to schedule your visit. Release form needed. 

#3 Second Galveston Clean-Up Day - November 8:   Meet at Zion Lutheran
Church. Please officially sign up no later than November 4. Email
peggy at gulfcoastsynod.org and let her know about your group and whether you
already have a t-shirt. Complete the form and bring it with you. 

The RELEASE FORMS can be found at the synod website at
www.gulfcoastsynod.org. People under 18 years old will need a parent's
signature. Anyone under age 16 should be accompanied by a parent. 

#4 Houston - Habitat for Humanity, Building in Cypress for a families still
recovering after Hurricane Katrina, 2005. If you are available to give a day
to two families, they really need you on Wednesday, Thursdays or Saturdays
at the site in Cypress. No experience is needed! If you can volunteer or you
would like to make a donation towards construction expenses, contact Ken
Dinges at 281-256-9557 or kendinges at gmail.com. What a blessing it would be
if we could help these families get "home for the holidays."

COFFEEHOUSE AT ADVENT:

coffee.jpgOn Saturday, November 15 from 6 pm to 11 pm, the High School Youth
at Advent Lutheran Church (5820 Pinemont Dr., Houston, TX   77092) invite
you to an evening of live music and specialty coffees, featuring pianist &
vocalist Rebecca McDonald, singer songwriter Steve Cole, classic rock band
Beyond Reason and modern rock band Trio of Four.  Suggested donation at the
door is $5 per person.  Coffee, smoothies and snacks will also be available
for sale.  Proceeds from the coffeehouse will help Advent youth attend the
ELCA Youth Gathering. 

CONTINUING ED FOR ALL ADULTS WHO WORK WITH YOUTH:

Youth Ministry Certification School -- available  close to home January
12-29, 2009, at Lutherhill in LaGrange, TX.  A 15-day intensive course in
Y&FM that provides solid theological education with cutting-edge ministry
basics with valuable network building for ongoing ministry support.
Provided by The Center for Youth Ministry at Wartburg Theological Seminary
AND The Youth & Family Institute.  Cost:  $2500.  For more information and

Peer Ministry Training - January 13-14, 2009 at Lutherhill in LaGrange, TX.
Young people often turn to their peers for support:but where do they turn to
learn how to do this?  We encourage adults to learn Peer Ministry Skills so
that they can help their students care for others in healthy ways.  Cost
is$195 which includes training, meals, and one-night lodging.  Register

ELCA Extravaganza - The Youth Ministry Community gathers once a year and
this January it's in New Orleans from January 28 - February 1, 2009.  You
can now register online for the 2009 Extravaganza in New Orleans January 28
- February 1st. Go to www.elcaymnet.org/Extravaganza to check out the
current list of speakers and musicians. You'll also find the descriptions of
the Intensive Care Workshops. So if you haven't checked out the Extravaganza
site in a while, pay a visit today and see what's new!
