monthly newsletter of the Partnership for Youth & Family Ministry, to better
serve you.  For that reason the February 2008 issue will not appear in
print, however there are some important things we don't want you to miss!

school students and adults will gather in New Orleans to make a difference.
Part of our work will be to restore Brechtel Park, a park that
unfortunately, like many in the city, has been neglected since the
hurricanes.  We will rebuild picnic tables, beautify the front entrance,
clean out the overgrown volleyball court and provide lunch for the
neighborhood families.  We hope to create a space for people of all ages to
come together to enjoy God's creation and have a respite from the burdens of
their every-day lives.

Event registration & hotel deadlines have passed, but we're hoping that
people will still participate by:  1)  praying for the community that will
serve and be served and 2) consider making a monetary donation to the work
of the  event.  Checks should be made payable to TLGCS and marked LYO Sr.
High Park Project.  

"Inside Today's Youth Culture" - Seminar on March 29 ~ Covenant Lutheran
Church is sponsoring a one-day seminar to explore the cultural and
generational gap that exists between youth and adults, and to look at
different forms of media and how it affects today's youth.  A must for all
who work with youth, the seminar will be held on Saturday March 29th from
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost  is $60, which includes lunch and material
handouts.

registration forms. Registration opens January 1st and closes March 22nd.

Lutheran Men in Mission 2008 Annual Gathering ~ Covenant Lutheran Church in
Houston is the host site on Saturday, February 16 when men from across our
synod gather under the theme "Why Men Hate Going to Church."  Special guests
will be Bishop Mike Rinehart and Peter Mayer, lead guitarist of the Jimmy
Buffet band.   RSVP by February 7 to brian at newlifelutheran.com or
mvbunett at sbcglobal.net.  The cost is $25, including lunch. 

Bible Quest.jpgBible Quest -- April 4-6 in Dry Creek, Louisiana  ~ Whether
at home or away, God is there with us. We encounter God through the stories
of the Bible that are also our stories to learn and grow from.  Come and
experience a weekend filled with opportunities to grow in Biblical knowledge
and understanding at Bible Quest! 

Cost:  $135 (includes registration and housing at the camp) Your pastor,
youth minister, or adult sponsor will register your group online.  Register
online and mail your forms and payment by Monday, March 10.

Our Bible Study Leader:  Pastor Timothy L. Poston is currently the pastor of
Mediator Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA.  Pastor Tim has a love of
scripture and preaching!  A central part of his personal call is knowing,
exploring, teaching and wrestling with God's Holy Word. 

Young Adult Mission Trip to New Orleans ~ Perhaps God is calling you to join
other young adults, college students and Campus Pastor Brad Fuerst on March
5 - 9, 2008 to help in the recovery efforts.  They will be doing general
labor; unless, that is, you possess a special skill like drywall
installation, framing, etc. (You can indicate this on the registration form)
The cost will be $100.00 per person to cover the cost of transportation and
purchasing food for breakfast and lunch meals.  Dinner is on your own.

The Disciple Project ~ Registration is open now for this popular summer
leadership school targeted to adults, young adults and high school youth
(students completing 8th grade this spring are welcome!).  Held June 29 -
July 3, 2008 on the campus of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, The
Disciple Project is a week (Sunday through Thursday) of wondering what God
is up to in your life, focusing on your areas of passion or curiosity - with
a deeply personal and, at the same time, widely global perspective.

If you can't wait until June to see AGAPE in concert ~ Covenant Lutheran
Church is hosting AGAPE on Monday night March 17th at 7:00 p.m. for their
junior and senior high night and they extend the invitation to you to come
and experience AGAPE.  Anyone who attended the LYO Jr. High Gathering this
last November can tell you what a fun night this will be!  The concert will
be from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Covenant Lutheran Church 3785 Barker Cypress Rd.
Please call the church office at 281/578-8799 to let them know you are
coming and with approximately how many people you are bringing.  All they
ask is a free will donation to help us cover the cost of the concert
