LATE BREAKING NEWS

 

Sunday, January 25, 2009  Organ Vespers at 6:00 p.m. The Bach Society
presents the dynamic young concert organist Thiemo Janssen of Hamburg,
Germany, on Sunday, January 25, at 6 p.m. in a program featuring works by
Bach, Buxtehude, as well as his own improvisations. Janssen is the organist
at the world-famous organ built by Arp Schnitger (1686-93) in the
Ludgerikirche in Norden, Germany. He also is a professor at the
Musikhochschule in Hamburg. He regularly plays concerts on some of the most
famous organs in Europe, including those at the Basilica in Weingarten,
Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, and the cathedral in Brussels. His latest
CD, recorded together with his wife Agnes Luchterhand, won the prestigious
"Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" [German Recording Critics’ Prize]
in 2006. Christ the King Lutheran Church is located at 2353 Rice Boulevard
(at Greenbriar Drive). There is no admission charge; a free-will offering

Sunday, February 15, 2009 Synod Assembly Registration Opens Watch your mail
- registration materials will be arriving in early February!  This year’s
Assembly will be held at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square on March 28-30.
Our three days together will be spent sharpening our ability for re-rooting
our congregations in our neighborhood, expanding our capacity for evangelism
and efficiently conducting business.  It will be worth your time and money.
Registration opens February 15th; early bird discounts are available through
March 31.  There is a $25 discount for registering online at
www.gulfcoastsynod.org.  Registration forms, Nomination forms, Display and
Ministry Fair Forms, and Resolution forms will be included in the mailing
and posted on the Web site by February 15.

 

 

UPCOMING EVENTS

Saturday, January 24th from 11:30 to 1:30pm, Wartburg Theological Seminary
will host a luncheon celebration at Spirit of Joy.    The purpose of the
event is to lift up seminary education and explore ways the congregations of
Montgomery County can help identify and develop valued leaders for the
Church.  Wartburg staff will be on hand to make a short presentation on the
opportunities and needs of theological education in the ELCA.  The highlight
of the afternoon will be a special presentation and blessing for Destiny
Petty by Wartburg President Duane Larson.   Destiny is discerning a call to
ministry.    Let’s come together to honor her faithful and enthusiastic
service to the life of the congregations of The Woodlands.  Lunch will be
served at noon.   A short “seed planting” opportunity will follow.   If you
have individuals with passion for their faith life or that you feel have the
gifts for ministry, please encourage them and their families to attend.

Saturday, February 7, 2009 The Lutheran Musicians Network announces
“Evangelical Lutheran Worship: It’s More Than You May Imagine!” Come for a
day of worship and delving deeper into the shaping of liturgies and music in
our new worship book.  All are welcome, including clergy, congregation,
choirs, worship teams, and all church musicians.  This event will be held at
Hosanna Lutheran Church, 16526 Ella Blvd., Houston, Saturday, February 7th,
beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The event will conclude with closing eucharist at
3:30 p.m.  Please RSVP by phone, 281.440.6890.  There is no cost for this
event, although lunch will be available for $10.

Friday, February 20 & 21, 2009 The Tri-Synod Men's Gathering @ Triumphant
Love LC in in Austin, FEB 20 & 21 (big gathering is FEB 21).  The theme is
LOG ON.  CONNECT & SERVE---God's Work.  Our Hands. Our goal is have at least
one car (with 2-3 men) from each congregation attend.  At least.  More will

St. Martin’s Evang Lutheran Church in Austin at 2:00 p.m.  Bishop Hanson
will visit St. Martin's as our congregation celebrates its 125th
anniversary: Saturday, April 25th An Open Forum and Reception with Bishop
